Situated within North Sydney’s healthcare hub, St. Vincent’s Mater Hospital’s newly refurbished Day Surgery and Palliative Care spaces form part of a new state-of-the-art facility designed to meet growing community demand while supporting compassionate, patient-centred care.

Crown Furniture played a key role in this multi-area upgrade, furnishing 12 patient rooms along with key shared and support spaces, including the bedrooms, central hub, day room lounge and dining, reflection room, and waiting areas. We collaborated closely with the architects of nettletontribe and the client team to bring the design vision to life. The selected pieces create a more homely feel while maintaining clinical performance and staying within budget.

From the outset, the team prioritised hands-on collaboration. Early meetings at Hub88, near the hospital site, gave the architects and client the opportunity to engage directly with a curated range of samples, testing comfort, comparing styles, and refining selections in real time. This tactile approach enabled faster, more confident decision-making and ensured the design intent carried through each space.

Across the project, Crown Furniture carefully selected pieces that meet rigorous healthcare requirements while creating a softer, more residential feel, particularly within the palliative care setting. The Mialla Armchair, along with the Coolum and Flemming lounges and Tremezzo tables, help shape environments that feel calm, welcoming, and familiar. The team also designed a custom banquet seating solution specifically for the project, responding to spatial needs while reinforcing the overall design language and creating cohesive areas for gathering and rest.

The Mater Hospital team recognised Crown Furniture’s responsiveness and collaborative approach throughout the project, noting how the team delivered solutions that supported both clinical requirements and everyday comfort. They also highlighted the seamless delivery process, clear communication, and strong after-care support from start to finish.

Today, these spaces reflect a thoughtful balance of performance and warmth, supporting care delivery while creating environments that feel considered, reassuring, and quietly human.
