A design that throws every expectation and stereotype of aged care homes out of the window, Catholic Healthcare’s MacKillop House in Sydney’s Norwest is seriously impressive.
Architecturally designed and nestled amidst the heart of the Hills District, Catholic Healthcare wanted to nurture a sense of community and embrace indoor and outdoor living whilst keeping the residents’ privacy in mind. With Meli Studio’s Julie Ockerby at the interior design helm, Crown Furniture worked with Catholic Healthcare to design modern, luxurious furniture pieces that would allow residents to feel right at home.
Wanting to give the residents the freedom to choose how they spent their time, it was important that there were a variety of communal and private spaces for residents to enjoy. Cosy, intimate breakout spaces were incorporated with comfortable lounges inviting residents to stop, rest and enjoy.
The stunning single bedrooms each feature large, double-glazed windows that flood the space with natural light. A comforting, homely colour palette is used throughout with premium linens and upholsteries adding a touch of luxury to everyday living.
In addition to the 104 bedrooms, the home also includes a variety of communal spaces including a library, café, chapel, multifunction centre, gym, hairdresser and consultation rooms as well as courtyards, sitting rooms, dining rooms and lounge rooms.
The result is a stunning aged care home that the Crown Furniture team is pleased to have played a part in. Choosing custom fit-for-purpose furniture pieces for every space enabled Catholic Healthcare to achieve the look they were after whilst ensuring the comfort, safety and enjoyment of their residents, staff and guests.
