The centre’s design champions recovery-oriented care, drawing on input from consumers, families, carers, and staff through a co-design process. Key features empower patients to take control of their environment with adjustable ventilation and lighting, while access to technology fosters education and community connection. Adhering to salutogenic principles that promote health and well-being, the facility incorporates circadian rhythm lighting, biophilic materials, and optimised thermal and acoustic comfort.
Contributing to Recovery
One of the project’s challenges was sourcing furniture that met the dual requirements of durability and suitability for the specific environment. A rigorous process involved Crown Furniture in trialling various furniture options and gathering stakeholder feedback. This iterative approach led us to do adjustments in the weights and dimensions of some products, ensuring they met the facility’s unique needs. Ultimately, over 50% specific fit-for-purpose Crown Furniture products were successfully fulfilled with solutions designed to align with the centre’s demands.
A Community-Driven Milestone
The Sunshine Mental Health and Wellbeing Centre is a direct response to the Royal Commission into Mental Health, marking a major step forward in the provision of mental health services for the local community.
This project highlights what Crown Furniture does best—creating purpose-built, tailored solutions that address the mental health needs of diverse and expanding communities. We deeply understand the vital role of thoughtful design and collaboration in delivering exceptional care environments.
